Foot & Ankle Surgery - UCLA Orthopaedic Surgery

Foot & Ankle Surgery Program Approach

New patients receive an in-depth consultation by physicians including a review of medical records and radiographs.

Medical conditions requiring treatment usually result from arthritic pain and deformity, instability, bunion deformities and tendon and ligament pathology. The service specializes in arthritic conditions requiring reconstruction.

Surgical treatment usually follows failure of non-surgical care and involves reconstruction. Repair of soft tissues includes tendon transfer and tendon resuturing, as well as ligament repair and stabilization. Repair of bony defects or bone damage may involve joint replacement, reconstruction, osteotomy, or grafts for fusion.

Almost all outpatient surgeries are performed using newly developed sedation techniques combined with regional blocks as alternatives to spinal, epidural, and general anesthesia. More complex operations that require brief hospitalization are performed in our state-of-the-art operating rooms at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center or at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital's state-of-the-art operating rooms.

Conditions Treated

  • Rheumatoid arthritis
