Medical students are encouraged to do an externship in order to get a first-hand experience of our program. This a three-week elective designed for the student interested in Orthopaedics or a similar surgical specialty. The student will be assigned to a resident-faculty team for three weeks at UCLA or one of our affiliated hospitals in one of the following subspecialties: Adult Reconstruction, Hand and Upper Extremity, Musculoskeletal Oncology, Pediatric Orthopaedics, Sports Medicine, Trauma.
The course objectives are to expose the student to the treatment and diagnosis of orthopaedic problems through didactics and in the in-and-out-patient and emergency room settings.

In addition to your supplemental documents outlined below, a completed Visiting 4th Year Medical Student Rotation Application Form is required. After downloading the rotation application form to your hard drive using the previous link, fill the form out then hit save. Email the saved/completed form to firstname.lastname@example.org. UCLA accepts applications submitted through Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS) for electives. In addition to the VSAS Application, these items must all be added as Supplemental Documents to your application in VSAS. Processing of your application will not be considered complete until your VSAS application and all required Supplemental Documents are received.
